Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey Photo Tour

Duration:3 days
Birds possible
Best season:All year round

Recognizing the need for drastic action to protect the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey(Rhinopithecus bieti), the government and other partners launched a program to protect this legendary species and save the best primary forests in an area of the Three Parallel Rivers, the famous world heritage site, that's sandwiched between the Yangtze and the Mekong River. There are two large reservations in Yunnan Province, one is Laojun Mountain National Park which is under the jurisdiction of Lijiang, and another one is the Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey National Park in Weixi County which is under the jurisdiction of Shangri-La.

This tour includes a visit at Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey National Park in Tacheng, Weixi County. While in the Laojun Mountain area it can take up to several days to spot a monkey, the animals can be watched in the National Park of Tacheng in the mornings (08:00am-11:00am) during feeding time. The ranger and research staff of the Forestry Department will lead you to respective places, they are familiar with the daily life of the snub-nosed monkey in this area. It's actually the only way for visitors to come close to the monkeys as they spend most of the time in trees.
